LANCOM OAP-310agn wins Innovation Prize!

A festive prize giving saw LANCOM Systems presented with the German "Innovationspreis-IT 2009" (IT Innovation Prize) in the category "Storage/Networks" at this year's CeBIT. Under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the first 300-Mbps outdoor access point to be introduced to the market, the LANCOM OAP-310agn Wireless, was declared the prize winner by a panel of distinguished judges.

The winning factor was the idea to adapt 802.11n technology, which was primarily developed for indoor wireless LAN, to provide directional radio links with unprecedented transmission speeds. This allows companies to provide high-speed networking between different buildings—for example, where the buildings for administration and warehousing are on opposite sides of a road—at very low cost and using bandwidths that were unavailable until now.

Furthermore, the OAP-310agn offers an economical and fast alternative for providing the "last mile" to broadband Internet access. A directional radio bridge using two of these access points can span distances of 20 kilometers and more while offering high net data rates—an neat way to close the gap to the next available Internet backbone.
