New version of AirWave for LANCOM access points
State-of-the-art enterprise WLAN offers the options of WLAN switching systems based on LANCOM access points
Aachen, Germany, San Mateo, California, September 12, 2005 - LANCOM Systems GmbH and AirWave Wireless Inc., a leading wireless network management software provider, today announced full support of LANCOM access points in the latest version of AirWave Management Platform (AMP). The new version offers AirWave and LANCOM customers’ central management capabilities for wireless LANs on the basis of LANCOM access points. Both Companies had announced a technical and marketing alliance earlier this year.
All of the advantages of wireless LAN switching systems, including centralized management and monitoring on the basis of LANCOM access points, are now available even for large and largest scale installations. This overall solution together with the advantages provided by access points offers an incomparable level of service, reliability, flexibility and performance.
The AirWave Management PlatformTM also offers significant advantages over similar solutions, such as its monitoring functions and documentation options, for example. Its comprehensive range of functions offers administrators significant cost and time savings as well as improved system availability.
The AirWave Management PlatformTM can be scaled up flexibly and can handle over 10,000 access points at once. The web-based management console provides sophisticated, intelligent control functions that monitor, analyze, configure and secure complex wireless network infrastructures in real time.
The latest AirWave version 3.4.1 supports not only the LANCOM L-54g und LANCOM L-54ag access points, but also the LANCOM 3550 Wireless with up to 2 WLAN wireless modules as well.
The new integrated LANCOM module is a powerful controlling and monitoring tool that allows every single LANCOM device (with one or two WLAN interfaces in the 2.4 and 5 GHz ranges) to be configured and managed in fine detail.
Furthermore, the LANCOM access points are now also supported by the AWSP Site Planner. This is a software module that allows WLAN installations to be planned graphically with the help of floor plans, and subsequently carries out an automatic device configuration.
Mr. Wilhelm Fries, M.Sc. in Informatics, of the University of Karlsruhe Computer Center, Networks and Communication Dept.:
“It took only a brief test phase before we were conveniently managing our DUKATH system with AMP from AirWave. It helps to identify and alleviate configuration errors very quickly, which in turn leads to a significant improvement in the operation and security of the WLAN network. A smooth implementation of existing systems, the intuitive web-based user interface and optimal tuning to LANCOM access points quickly served to reduce workloads through the multi-user access for administrators. The result is more efficient organization, which in turn lead to enormous cost savings."
